# Formatting & Alignment Tools
> In this tutorial, you'll master the Slidely Formatting Tools to align, space, and resize shapes effectively. By the end, you'll be faster and more efficient in your design work.
## Step 1
Understand the concept of a Master Shape. The first shape you select becomes the Master Shape, and all other shapes align according to it. For example, if you select two shapes, the first one becomes the reference point for alignment.
## Step 2
Align objects using the alignment features. To align three objects at the top of a line, make the line your Master Shape.
## Step 3
Select the other two objects and top align them.
## Step 4
Align objects to the left or center. Select the line as the Master Shape and align accordingly.
## Step 5
Use keyboard shortcuts for alignment. For instance, the shortcut for Align Middle is 'am'. Hold the 'A' key and press 'M'.
## Step 6
Distribute objects horizontally using the spacing features. Go to the Spacing tab.
## Step 7
Click the **Distribute Horizontal** button.
## Step 8
Adjust horizontal spacing. Select the objects and increase or decrease their spacing as needed.
## Step 9
Distribute objects vertically using the Distribute Vertical option.
## Step 10
Resize objects to make them uniform. Use the Make Same Width feature to make three rectangles the same width.
## Step 11
Swap two shapes using the Swap Shapes feature.
## Step 12
Make two shapes the same size, both height and width, using the Make Same Size option.
